As we approach the end of 2018, we reflect on the abundance of support, collaboration, and caring shared with the Nakusp and Area Youth Network (NAYN) from local businesses, allied organizations, and community members. It is with sincere gratitude that we offer recognition to our partners in community; without your ideas, availability, donations and investment in NAYN we would not have achieved the successes we did this past year.
As a community, you have allowed NAYN to expand beyond the Youth Centre – to spaces such as the Old Firehall where many meals were created with passion and intrigue by Sup’ Club!; to Whatshan Lake where yard games and laughter filled the Local Lakers Society campground; to Atlantis Water Slides in Vernon where ten youth got to enjoy a recreational opportunity not offered in local settings; to the Fauquier Community Hall where youth living in the ‘and Area’ joined for friendly competition over board games.
It takes a community to create authentic spaces of inclusivity, diversity, and safety for young people to feel empowered to become – and explore – who they are. The NAYN team is grateful to be working in a valley of communities that value the voices of young people, support youth-driven initiatives, and work together to create cultural spaces of collaboration, opportunity and responsibility.
We look forward to what 2019 will bring for NAYN and the youth of Nakusp and area.
